Lisa is part of our litigation department and has been with the firm—and back on island—for just over a year. She returned to St. Thomas from Miami where she attended the University of Miami School of Law, graduating with honors. While she was in law school, Lisa was on the Dean’s List, a law review editor, and a member of the Moot Court Board. After four and half years of practicing in Miami, Lisa decided to return to St. Thomas, where she grew up, to be closer to her parents.
After Lisa graduated from law school, she began practicing law in Miami with a boutique litigation firm handling cases in both state and federal court which primarily involved employment discrimination, insurance coverage, misuse of intellectual property, premises liability and breach of commercial contracts and leases. Lisa then moved to a large national firm and continued to work on insurance coverage and breach of contract cases, including class actions, and also began to handle some real property and securities litigation.

Since Lisa began working with BoltNagi, she has continued to hone her skills in the areas of insurance coverage, breach of contract and employment discrimination. She also has had the occasion to work on products liability, personal injury cases, and consumer protection cases. In the past year, Lisa has counseled clients though all stages of litigation, including pre-suit counseling designed to maximize the chances of succeeding in court. Lisa also began to counsel clients on how reduce their potential exposure to lawsuits and how to shift the risks and expenses of litigation away from themselves through, among other things, third-party contracts and insurance, should litigation occur. Lisa has also successfully mediated cases, defended clients in depositions and appeared in court.
Notable results on cases that Lisa worked include:
Representing the plaintiff:
• Four insurance coverage matters where amount obtained by the insured was tens of thousands of dollars over that which the insurer initially offered the insured which, in two of the cases, was zero.
• A sexual harassment case where a six figure settlement was obtained for the employee who had been harassed.
Representing the defendant:
• An administrative enforcement action for an alleged ongoing breach of environmental laws was settled for $1500.00 where the governing law allowed an award of $50,000.00 per day the breach occurred.
• A breach of contract case valued a quarter of a million dollar where a dismissal of half of the other party’s claims was obtained.
• A personal injury case where a dismissal and an award of attorneys’ fees and costs was obtained.
